Why Should We Hire You? Answer With Problem, Proof, and Contribution
Interview question
“Why should we hire you?”
Why do they ask this?
Interviewers want to know whether you can connect your strengths to the role's needs. A claim that you are the best is less persuasive than a clear problem you can help reduce.
How to say it
Choose one role problem and one piece of evidence instead of listing three strengths.
Problem — what the role needs
Frame one team challenge or capability you heard in the job description or interview.
Proof — what you have done
Give one relevant experience and its result. 'I am good at it' is weaker than what changed.
Contribution — your first application
Connect it to how you would contribute after joining, while staying realistic about what you still need to learn.
Common mistakes
- Listing diligence, passion, and responsibility with no evidence.
- Repeating your introduction without addressing the role's problem.
- Ending with an unsupported claim that you are the best candidate.
Practice by recording
Record 45 seconds and check whether the opening names a role need and the close names a contribution. One experience in the middle is enough.
